5) Terrifier 3
The most terrifying clown around returns this October for the third installment in the popular Terrifier series. Reportedly set on Christmas Eve with returning cast, Lauren LaVera, Elliot Fullam and David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown. Also returning with apparently a more prominent role is Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes, the heroine turned villainess of the original movie. As well as AEW wrestler Chris Jericho, who has signed on to play a character named Burke. Fans were treated to a sneak peak at what to expect at the end of 2023 with the release of a controversial trailer showing Art the clown in full Santa get up. By the looks of things Terrifier 3 promises to be more boundary pushing and will be a welcome start to the festive fear season.
4) Alien: Romulus
Written and directed by Fede Álvarez and apparently unconnected to other Alien films but set timeline wise in between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). Álvarez’s story which was co written with long-time collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe), will follow a group of young people on a distant world played by Caliee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), David Jonsson (Industry) and Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone) who encounter the Xenomorph. Reportedly going back to the franchises horror roots. Industry executives seem impressed as the movie originally set for a streaming only release on Hulu has now been given a theatrical release later on this year.
3) The Wolf Man
Universal is continuing to reinvent their legacy monsters. A step away from the Dark Universe and hopefully closer to something more interesting. Last year they announced a remake of The Mole People (1956) and now one of their most treasured Monsters is getting a makeover. Who better to write and direct this, than Leigh Whannell who helmed the recent and successful The Invisible Man reimagining from 2020. All that is known about the project so far is it stars Julia Garner (Ozark) Christopher Abbott (It Comes At Night) and is about “a man and his family who have been scared to death by a deadly predator”.
2) Nosferatu
Robert Eggers could be considered one of the most visionary directors working. With a history in set design and a strong emphasis on practical effects, creating atmospheric and believable movies. Eggers previous works The VVitch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019) and The Northman (2022) have all been much lauded by critics and celebrated for their authenticity. Now he turns his talents to one of Cinema’s most iconic creations… Nosferatu. The Dracula like, Count Orlock played by Bill Skarsgard (It and Barbarian) with Lilly Rose Depp (Tusk) Nicolas Hoult (The Menu, Mad Max Fury Road) and Willem Defoe (Shadow of the Vampire). Nosferatu 2024 is sure to be an intriguing cinematic treat.
1) Beetlejuice 2
The ghost with the most returns. Dust off your Handbooks for the Recently Deceased and prepare to reacquaint yourselves with Michael Keaton’s bio exorcist Beetlegeuse. Tim Burton has now officially wrapped production on the sequel to the 1988 classic and promises a return not only of original cast members Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’ Hara but practical effects and much monster goodness. Starring Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz and Monica Belluici as Beetlejuice’s wife amongst others. Beetlejuice 2 will likely be released around October.
