April 26th is indeed known as Alien day due to the name of the moon LV426, where the Xenomorphs are first discovered in Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, Alien.
Director Fede Alvarez shared this pic on his Twitter feed this morning. Alvarez is no stranger to revitalizing genre movies. His 2013 Evil Dead was a big success giving the franchise a new direction which has subsequently led to Evil Dead Rise, currently in theaters. So it’s with great interest that we await Alvarez’s Alien movie rumored to be titled Romulus. Little is known about the project other than Ridley Scott is on board as a producer working off an Alvarez penned script which really struck a chord with the legendary filmmaker. Ridley was interested in making his own Alien movie after Covenant and even District 9 film maker Neil Blomkamp had his hat in the ring for his interpretation. It is Alvarez’s movie that got the greenlight though in a joint venture with 20th Century Fox and Hulu. This will be a stand alone movie not featuring any of the franchise’s previous characters. Starring actors David Jonsson, (Industry) Spike Fearn, (The Batman) Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone) and Isabela Merced (Rosaline). Little is known about the plot other than it will follow a group of young people from a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
To celebrate Alien Day, Mad Monster has a source close to the project who has shared with us a small but intriguing piece of information. It seems that this movie will be set between the events of Ridley Scott’s original movie but before James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens. Making Alvarez’s latest an actual direct sequel timeline wise, to the original movie. Looking forward to whatever other secrets this movie has to offer.
