Gremlins star, Zach Galligan, was one of our guests last Weekend during Mad Monster Party Carolina 2021. During our Q&A panel spoke a little bit about the upcoming Gremlins animated series prequel. “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”
I asked Zach, “Being that it’s a prequel to the original movies, would that be something you would be interested in taking on a voice-over role as a different character?”
Zack replied, “yeah, I mean, you know, I kind of think the mountain dew commercial had something to do with that, Like yeah, let’s talk about Gremlins now, let use this window to make a few announcements. ”
With Commercial dropping on Monday, the 16th, and then the first of several new updates about the animated series coming two days later on the 18th & 19th, the commercial’s timing and the announcements made about the series didn’t feel like a coincidence to Zach. The first one being announcing members of the voice-over cast, including B.D. Wong, Ming Na Wen, James Hong, Mathew Rhyes, however it was the announcement made the following day that surprised Zach the most.
“And then they announced the very next day, much to my shock and surprise, that they are doing a season 2 already and they haven’t even released season 1!” “They have renewed for a second season, and they are still nine months away from the first episode” Zach goes on to say “Obviously the people (executives) who are seeing it are responding to how good it is.” He went on to answer my initial question by saying, “Is there a possibility I would be in it in some way or shape or form, be it in Season 1 or Season 2, and obviously the answer is it’s possible. So we will see what happens with that.”
Zach then segued into discussing the possibility of the success of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, leading into the long-awaited live-action Gremlins 3, “Really I would say anyone who’s a Gremlins fan, the following If you want a live-action movie. And that’s something you would enjoy….. If you really want a Gremlins 3, you should watch the animated series.”
Continuing, he explains, “The more people who watch the animated series…. if the animated series does well, it’s inevitable that Gremlins 3 will follow….. They will not remake because the people who own the rights have said they will not allow it to be remade or rebooted. ”
Zach explains that reboot depends upon the use of the word comparing, for example, that Jurassic World is technically a reboot, but it’s primarily a sequel as well.
He ended the panel saying, “If you want to a sequel with some of your favorite Gremlins hunters and everything like that, the best thing to do is watch the animated series, support it, or tweet about it, but make that thing a success and you’ll get your Gremlins 3 it’s really that simple.
So there you have it, everyone, if you want to know what you can do to help audiences get a Gremlins 3, here is your chance. Support Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, when it starts airing on HBO Max later this year.
